Weimar

This year, the 5th Queer Film Festival Weimar will take place from December 11–14, 2025, featuring a diverse program of short and feature films, performances, workshops, panel discussions, and a party.

We founded ourselves at the end of 2021 to strengthen and connect queer people and our community, to create queer spaces, and above all, to jointly create accessible and low-threshold access to anchor queer topics in our society. This is to counter the increasingly loud right-wing opinions with queer_feminist perspectives.

All events are accessible free of charge. We work with content notes, which we make available in printed form. Awareness teams are always on-site. For more information, please visit our instagram (website down currently :().

We are collectively and voluntarily organized and finance the festivals through public funding. <3

Last year, we had to postpone our festival rather spontaneously due to capacity issues in our team, which led to some discrepancies in our deadlines/notifications. We apologize for this! As we are also planning a few smaller screenings at other locations in Thuringia at the beginning of next year, we have our submission for a longer periode open.

Closing Date

Information on curation:

Backround checks:
We ask that you give us information about the people involved in the movie, we understand and respect that not everyone is willing and/or able to do this. If you can/like just send us what you want to share. We do this because to a certain extent it makes our job easier to select the films we want to show. We do these "backround checks" to find out from which perspective and on which perspective the films are produced, in terms of positioning in society, sexual orientation, gender identity,... It is important to us that the films come out of the communities and are not about communities.

Power:
We are aware that a certain amount of power goes hand in hand with the selection of films. As the curation team, we have the power to decide what and who is presented on the screen. As a result, we also determine which themes, productions and voices are present in the public eye and possibly gain publicity. Our aim is to put together an international, intersectional and queer_feminist film program. We place a strong focus on critically classifying and constantly reflecting on our perspectives and actively try to show intersectional films and voices. This year, we’re working with an expanded team of curators to bring in new perspectives and deepen the exchange around the films.
